Job Context
International Relief Network (IRN) is seeking a Community Outreach Coordinator to engage with and build strong relationships within local communities in Khartoum, North Sudan. This role is essential for creating a bridge between humanitarian programs and the beneficiaries they serve. The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for organizing awareness campaigns, humanitarian workshops, and gathering valuable feedback to continuously improve IRN’s programs.
Working in a culturally sensitive environment, the coordinator will engage with local leaders, vulnerable populations, and community groups to ensure the effectiveness and impact of our programs. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a deep understanding of the local context, and a passion for community development.

Job Responsibility
1. Building Strong Relationships with Local Communities
- Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and key stakeholders.
- Act as the primary liaison between the community and IRN’s humanitarian programs, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.
- Identify key community influencers and engage them in discussions to promote IRN’s mission and initiatives.
2. Organizing Awareness Campaigns and Humanitarian Workshops
- Plan and execute community awareness campaigns to educate local populations about humanitarian programs, rights, and available services.
- Organize workshops and training sessions on key topics such as health, sanitation, nutrition, and disaster preparedness, in collaboration with subject matter experts.
- Ensure campaigns are culturally sensitive, inclusive, and reach target populations, including vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly.
3. Gathering Feedback from Beneficiaries
- Conduct regular field visits to communities to gather feedback and assess the impact of ongoing programs.
- Set up systems to capture beneficiary feedback on program effectiveness, and identify any gaps or areas for improvement.
- Report findings to senior management, offering recommendations for program adjustments or new initiatives based on community feedback.
4. Advocacy and Community Empowerment
- Advocate for local needs and concerns within IRN’s program planning and decision-making processes.
- Empower communities to take ownership of their development through capacity-building activities and awareness raising.
- Foster a culture of participation where beneficiaries actively contribute to the success of humanitarian programs.
5. Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor community activities and ensure that outreach goals are being met.
- Provide regular reports and updates to IRN management about the status of outreach activities, challenges, and successes.
- Track the progress of community engagement efforts and report on any changes or developments.

Educational Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Social Work, International Relations, Community Development, or a related field.
- Additional certifications or training in community engagement or humanitarian work are a plus.

Experience Requirement
- At least 3 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or a similar role in humanitarian or development settings.
- Proven experience in organizing community campaigns, workshops, and large-scale outreach initiatives.
- Experience working in North Sudan or similar cultural contexts is highly desirable.

Additional Requirement
- Languages:
- Fluency in Arabic and English is preferred.
- Knowledge of local languages or dialects is an advantage.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to address challenges in the field.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of:
- Humanitarian standards and best practices in community engagement.
- Local cultural dynamics and community structures in North Sudan.
