    International Relief Network (IRN) is seeking 12 Humanitarian Aid Drivers to provide safe and reliable transportation for relief supplies and personnel across various locations in South Sudan. The drivers will play a key role in ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches displaced populations, vulnerable communities, and field teams in remote and often high-risk areas.

    This position requires a commitment to safety, professionalism, and flexibility as drivers may be required to navigate challenging terrain, work under pressure, and adhere to strict security protocols. Basic mechanical knowledge will be beneficial to address minor vehicle issues in the field.

    The role is critical to the success of humanitarian operations, ensuring that essential goods such as food, medical supplies, and equipment are delivered timely and securely to affected populations.

  • Job Responsibility

    1. Transporting Relief Supplies & Staff

    • Safely transport relief supplies, equipment, and staff to designated locations, including remote and difficult-to-reach areas.
    • Ensure timely delivery of goods and services to field offices, refugee camps, and local health centers.
    • Adhere to delivery schedules and adjust routes when necessary due to changing field conditions (weather, roadblocks, security issues).

    2. Vehicle Maintenance & Security

    • Conduct routine inspections of vehicles before and after each trip to ensure safety, functionality, and cleanliness.
    • Maintain vehicle logs, including fuel consumption, mileage, maintenance schedules, and trip details.
    • Report vehicle damage, accidents, or irregularities immediately and ensure the proper completion of incident reports.
    • Follow security protocols and operational guidelines during transportation, particularly in conflict zones, to ensure both personal and cargo safety.

    3. Emergency Preparedness

    • In case of emergency situations (vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or security threats), follow established emergency response procedures.
    • Assist field teams and local authorities during evacuations or medical emergencies when needed.

    4. Collaboration with Logistics & Field Teams

    • Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure the efficient use of vehicles and proper planning for supply routes and transportation needs.
    • Maintain regular communication with field coordinators and supervisors regarding vehicle status, deliveries, and schedules.

    5. Compliance with Local & International Regulations

    • Adhere to traffic laws, safety regulations, and international humanitarian guidelines during operations.
    • Ensure that all documentation (driver’s license, vehicle insurance, permits) is valid and up-to-date.

  • Educational Requirement

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Defensive driving certification or equivalent training is mandatory.
    • Additional certifications related to road safety or first aid are a plus.

  • Experience Requirement

  • Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience.
  • Experience driving in conflict zones, remote areas, or challenging environments is preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve minor vehicle issues (e.g., tire changes, engine problems).
  • Previous experience working with humanitarian organizations or in disaster relief operations is an advantage.
  • Additional Requirement

  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (basic speaking and understanding).
    • Knowledge of local languages or Arabic is an advantage.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong understanding of road safety, navigation, and defensive driving techniques.
    • Ability to work in high-stress situations and navigate challenging terrain.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and communities.
  • Physical Fitness:
    • Ability to perform long hours of driving and handle the physical demands of fieldwork.
  • Willingness to travel to remote and sometimes high-risk areas, with the understanding of potential security threats.
