Job Context
International Relief Network (IRN) is seeking a Security Guard to ensure the safety and security of its staff, facilities, and aid supplies in Somalia. The role involves active surveillance and response to potential security threats in a high-risk, conflict-affected environment. The Security Guard will be responsible for maintaining a secure environment and providing peace of mind to staff working in challenging conditions. This position is critical for the success of humanitarian operations, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most without disruption.
The Security Guard will be expected to follow security protocols, participate in security training, and work collaboratively with local law enforcement to address any security threats or emergencies. This is a physically demanding position that requires a high level of vigilance, alertness, and discipline.

Job Responsibility
1. Protecting IRN Staff, Facilities, and Aid Supplies
- Monitor the safety of IRN facilities, including offices, warehouses, and staff housing.
- Ensure that aid supplies are protected from theft, damage, or sabotage.
- Escort staff members during field missions, ensuring their safety during high-risk activities.
- Control access to sensitive areas, ensuring only authorized personnel can enter restricted zones.
2. Conducting Security Patrols and Monitoring Access Points
- Perform regular security patrols around IRN facilities, checking for any signs of security breaches or suspicious activity.
- Monitor entry and exit points, checking identification and ensuring that only authorized personnel gain access to the facilities.
- Ensure all perimeter fences, gates, and access points are secure, taking immediate action in case of any vulnerabilities.
3. Responding to Security Threats and Coordinating with Law Enforcement
- Alert and respond to security threats (e.g., intrusions, suspicious packages, or personnel) swiftly and efficiently.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and military units when necessary to address potential threats and ensure the safety of IRN personnel and property.
- Report incidents to IRN management and collaborate with the security team to provide updates and mitigate any risks.
- Ensure that all security procedures are followed in emergency situations to protect personnel and assets.
4. Maintaining Security Logs and Reports
- Document and report all security-related incidents, including actions taken and outcomes.
- Maintain a logbook of all patrols, security checks, and security-related events, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Review security footage (if applicable) to monitor for any suspicious activities.
5. Enforcing Safety Procedures and Guidelines
- Ensure that all personnel and visitors adhere to IRN’s safety protocols while on site.
- Educate and remind staff about security practices and protocols to enhance situational awareness.
- Participate in regular security drills to maintain readiness for emergencies.

Educational Requirement
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Security training or military experience is required, with additional certifications in security or emergency response considered a plus.

Experience Requirement
- At least 2 years of experience in security or military positions, with a focus on protecting personnel and facilities in high-risk or conflict zones.
- Previous experience working in humanitarian settings or with NGOs is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to maintain situational awareness and respond appropriately to threats in a timely manner.

Additional Requirement
- Physically fit and able to handle the physical demands of the role, including patrolling and emergency response tasks.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments, demonstrating calmness and composure in the face of security threats.
- Basic knowledge of English and proficiency in local languages (Somali or Arabic) is highly preferred.
- Strong communication skills, especially in reporting incidents clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with local authorities and IRN staff.
