Job Context
The WASH Specialist will play a critical role in designing and implementing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs in crisis-affected communities in Syria. The position requires expertise in water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion to improve public health and prevent disease outbreaks. The specialist will work closely with engineers, local authorities, and humanitarian partners to ensure sustainable and effective WASH interventions. This role demands strong technical knowledge, community engagement skills, and the ability to work in emergency settings.

Job Responsibility
1. WASH Program Implementation
- Design and oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of water supply, sanitation, and waste management systems.
- Ensure access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities in refugee camps and conflict-affected areas.
- Monitor water quality and implement water treatment solutions as needed.
2. Hygiene Promotion & Community Training
- Conduct awareness campaigns on hygiene best practices, focusing on disease prevention.
- Train local communities and health workers on safe water usage, personal hygiene, and sanitation maintenance.
- Develop educational materials to support hygiene awareness efforts.
3. Coordination & Technical Collaboration
- Work with civil engineers and infrastructure teams to develop sustainable water supply systems.
- Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and UN organizations to align WASH initiatives with national policies.
- Participate in humanitarian coordination meetings to ensure integration of WASH activities into broader relief efforts.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Compliance
- Conduct assessments and surveys to determine WASH needs in affected communities.
- Track and report progress on project implementation, impact, and challenges.
- Ensure compliance with international WASH standards and humanitarian regulations.

Educational Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Civil/Water Engineering, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.

Experience Requirement
- Minimum 3 years of experience in WASH program implementation in humanitarian or development settings.
- Experience in designing and managing water supply and sanitation infrastructure projects.
- Previous work in conflict zones or emergency response environments is preferred.

Additional Requirement
- Languages:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Arabic proficiency is highly preferred for effective community engagement.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of water treatment, sanitation engineering, and public health principles.
- Experience using GIS mapping and water quality testing tools is an advantage.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and community mobilization abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and adaptability in crisis situations.
- Ability to work under pressure in conflict-prone areas.
- Willingness to travel to remote locations and refugee camps.
